Peekaboo Pleats Clutch
I am obsessed with clutches. Incredibly and inexplicably obsessed.
Which is why I am bringing you another clutch tutorial. But this one has pleats! And it’s adorable (if done right), completely different than anything I have ever done before, and I am so happy to be done with it!
I got the idea from Delia Creates. Her tutorial was so easy to follow, but I still had so many issues while sewing it together. I’d say this project is probably for a more experienced seamstress (or one who is not as scatterbrained as I am). But if I can do it I’m pretty sure any beginner can too! It’ll just take you a little bit longer than someone who has been sewing for a while.

What You Need:
- 2 fabric quarters for outside fabric
- 2 fabric quarters for peekaboo pleats & inside fabric
- zipper
I really followed Delia Creates tutorial on how to cut up my pieces and compose my bag. She does such a great job at explaining everything so I strongly suggest you visit her site!

Here are a few things that I would do differently after making this clutch:
- Use quilting fabric for the outside. For some reason I thought regular cotton fabric would be fine but it is way to flimsy. (beginner mistake!)
- I’d make it into a bag and not a clutch. I just don’t like it as a clutch, but that’s my personal preference.
- Be very careful going sewing the pleats because if you’re not paying close attention they can shift easily and not lay right when everything is said and done.
It really could be a cute clutch and/or bag, if I had done it right. I’ll probably use this as a travel bag for something but nothing more than that.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the pleats or not so much?
I love seeing other people’s “what went wrongs” (in the nicest possible way of course) Makes us feel better about our own. Anyway there is no such thing as mistakes just opportunities to learn!
Very well said! This was definitely a learning opportunity, and if it can help others not make my mistakes then I am happy to share!
