Easy Chalk Paint Vase Update
Chris and I have been married for three years, and I have been struggling to decorate our home together ever since. It’s pretty difficult to take two different styles and merge them in to one, especially when one style is already predominant in our home. So I have put off decorating until I could figure out how to merge modern and country.
I always said that I wanted to decorate our home with a French Cottage feel once we buy a house and I get to pick out all the furniture. Since I’m not sure when that will be, I’ve finally decided to just go ahead and start decorating anyway. The first area of the home to get the much-needed makeover was the dinning room baker’s rack. Luckily I owned everything already so the cost of this project was only the chalk paint and paintbrush!

Materials Needed
- DecoArt chalk paint, light pink
- Large or medium paintbrush
- Old vase
- White spray paint (only needed if the vase is painted a color other than white!)
Because the chalk paint was a very light pink, the base of the paint had to be white. I didn’t want any other color bleeding through once the paint dried because the plan was to not completely coat the vase with the chalk paint. If you want another color other than white to peek through your vase, spray paint would work great in this instance!
I used a small/medium paint brush and applied a quick and light coat of the chalk paint. I wasn’t very careful about applying the paint because I wanted it to look a little imperfect and I also wanted the white base to peek through. I also feared that if I did too thick of a coat that the color would be too dark, and I had envisioned a beautiful light pink and didn’t want to accidentally mess that up!
One coat gave me the soft pink color that I was envisioning, and the best part is that the color changes depending on which angle the light is hitting the vase! And the pink looks beautiful with all the other knick knacks on the rack!
And because I love a good before and after, here’s a side by side comparison!
What do you think? Have you jumped on the chalk paint love train yet or are you still deciding how you feel about the trend?
I’ve never used chalk paint! One of my good friends has been experimenting with it…guess I’m up next!
The vase is a lovely color! I guess I don’t even know much about the trend yet, because I don’t even know what makes chalk paint different than other kinds of paints!
I love that shade of pink! I haven’t used the chalk paint yet, but seeing your project makes me want to create a project!
Cute! I like the soft pink you used, it’s so pretty.
I just love how this turned out!! i want to do one like this. The vase is so cute!!
I am firmly seated on the chalk paint train! Whoo Whoo! Love the pretty pink color you picked… it’s gorgeous! Love that decided to start decorating now, I’ve always believed that there’s no point in waiting for someday when we can spend so much time enjoying our homes today! Can’t wait to follow along!
