Every year for Christmas my parents would alway give my sister and I a Hallmark Ornament. It was one gift we could open on Christmas Eve, and Sam and I would always get up early just to tear into those presents. When my dad passed away in 2006 my mom stopped giving us ornaments because she wanted us to remember those gifts as being from both of our parents.
Now that Chris and I have started a family, we want to carry on that same tradition. I have my very own box full of Hallmark Ornaments and want our children to have the same. Because my parents were the ones who started the tradition I thought it would be fun to twist it around and give my mom a Hallmark Ornament from her Grandson this year!
The sweet traditions that my parents started with my sister and I are ones that I am so excited to pass on to my son. Our Hallmark Ornaments that were given each year are a wonderful reminder of all the great Christmases we had growing up when my dad was still around, and I love going through my box and looking at what I got year after year. I am really excited to give my mom a glimpse at the joy she passed on to me by giving her Hallmark Ornaments and a way to display them from her Grandson!
To make your very own Grandparents plaque you’ll need:
- Outdoor vinyl (also known as permanent)
- Transfer paper
- Wooden plaque
- Wood stain
- Silhouette portrait or cameo
- Twine
First, stain your wood and let it sit for at least 48 hours. If you don’t, the vinyl will not stick to your wooden plaque! Then, design your saying in the Silhouette software and cut it out. Weed the extra vinyl and then place transfer paper on top of your design.
Place your design on top of your wooden plaque then pull up the transfer paper.
Using your staple gun, attach the twine to your plaque.
This year I wanted to give back to my mom and give her an ornament from her Grandson. It’s kind of a nod to what my parents did for me growing up, and I’m so excited to take that tradition and turn it around on her. I may have also picked up some other ornaments for the other members of my family, because they’re all just so cute!
What I love about this plaque is that you can hang pretty much anything from it. And what will be fun is when the grandkids get older and they can sign their names to the cards, because that would be so cute for the Grandparents to show off to whomever is visiting their home!
Hallmark Ornaments have always been a huge part of my Christmases and I am so excited to share that with my little one as he grows up. You can find all the cute ornaments I picked out (and more!) at your local Walmart stores this holiday season.
And if you need a little something extra to get you in the holiday spirit, you should tune in to the Hallmark Holiday Favorites Pandora station. Because it is never too early for some holiday music!
Now tell me, which ornament would you love to receive this year?
I love this idea, it is so cute! My grandma always has a Hallmark ornament at everyones place at Christmas dinner. And I also got them growing up from my parents too. The Barbie ones were my favorite or my I Love Lucy and I Dream of Jeanie ones!
Thank you! I love that your Grandma puts one at everyone’s place setting for dinner! And I collected the Barbie ornaments too! Those and the Disney ones were always my favorites. 😉
What a fun idea! This would be the perfect gift for our grandparents this year and I’m sure they would love it! Thanks so much for sharing! #client
